A wise old elephant once said, "You don't know what you've got until it's gone"*. And it's very much like that with your car. If you suddenly don't have it, you realise how much you rely on it.
So this hire car cover may be a real blessing for you. If you have our Comprehensive car insurance, we'll give you a courtesy car while yours is repaired after an accident. Unfortunately you don't get a courtesy car if yours is stolen and unrecovered or written off as a result of a Road Traffic Accident or theft. But you will get a hire car to use, if you take out hire car cover.
Your hire car will usually be less than one year old. And all named drivers on your insurance policy can use it (as long as they're 18 or over with a full licence).
When can I have it and for how long?
Once we've confirmed that your car is written off or stolen and not recovered, you can ring our claims line on 0844 543 4422 and we will notify Albany Assistance Ltd on your behalf. If you have a Third Party Fire & Theft policy, you can keep the car for up to 14 days. If yours is a Comprehensive policy, you can keep it for up to 21 days.
Hopefully that will be enough time for you to sort out a permanent replacement for your written off or stolen car. But if you find you need the hire car longer, you can extend your hire at a discounted rate; just call 0800 085 8134.
