Try a new trip this summer

With leading insurer elephant.co.uk's European Certificate, which is included with all fully comprehensive policies, you are covered for 30 days cover at once, and 90 days throughout the year, when driving to all members of the European Union, and a number of other countries across Europe including Croatia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

Of course, when driving anywhere on the Continent, it is vital to be prepared; for example, you should always remember a number of things including:

  • valid full driving licence
  • your insurance certificate
  • warning triangle
  • GB sticker (or GB Euro symbol numberplates)
  • adjust the beam on your headlights

You also need to be prepared when it comes to the traffic rules of the countries you are visiting. For instance, in Croatia it is illegal to drive without your headlights on dipped beam during the daytime, and in Slovenia, heavy on-the-spot fines are in place for traffic offences such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and for using mobile phones without properly installed wireless headsets. In the Czech Republic, the police can fine you up to £350 if you do not display a sticker that allows you to travel on the Expressways.

elephant.co.uk Managing Director, Tanzie Oliver says, "Although the traffic rules can vary from country to country, with a little bit of research, you'll be more than ready for a successful trip."

She added, "A number of countries are becoming ever more popular as summer destinations and although the drive to them is long, having your car available allows you to explore them to their fullest. The coastline of Croatia is one of Europe's prettiest, and offers secluded coves and unspoilt towns; Slovenia offers lakes and mountains, giving breathtaking views and plenty of fresh air."
