Luxury car manufacturers Rolls Royce have unveiled an inventive new vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show.
The £225,000 Wraith is fitted with advanced GPS mapping technology which can read the road ahead even before its driver can see it.
The system will then automatically pre-selects the correct gear for motorists and car insurance policy holders, even when approaching roundabouts or motorway junctions.
A Rolls Royce spokesman explained the intricacies of the pioneering system to The Daily Mail, saying, "The satellite-aided transmission uses GPS data to see beyond what the driver sees; it anticipates his or her next move based on location and current driving style, then selects the most appropriate gear for the terrain ahead."
Drivers ultimately maintain control over the car's automatic gearbox through the accelerator and brakes, meaning changes can be made if necessary. The GPS technology is also used to prepare the Wraith's steering and suspension for the road ahead.
The Wraith's GPS system is voice activated, meaning that motorists simply have to tell the computer where they want to go for it to begin planning the journey ahead.
Rolls Royce's latest car is also the most powerful model they have ever produced, with its 624 horse-power engine, giving the Wraith a 0-60 speed of 4.4 seconds. The 6.7 litre engine four-seater has an artificially limited top speed of 155mph and is expected to have a fuel efficiency of over 20 miles to the gallon.
The luxury supercar will be constructed at the company's famous Chichester factory, which currently employs 1,050 staff.
