A driver in the US who went bananas at police, claiming he had monkeys in his car, shrugged off a taser attack to lead officers on a 130mph chase.
The bizarre incident took place at 6am after a solitary Butler County officer spotted a black Jaguar pulled up by the side of Interstate 79, flashing its hazard warning lights, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
A certain John J Joseph emerged from the vehicle, and - apparently enraged by the presence of on-board apes - approached the cop car screaming blue monkey murder.
In an attempt to draw the incident to a close, the officer apparently reached for his taser and shot at 31-year-old Leetsdale man Joseph. However, the driver simply pulled the barbed prong out before getting back into his car and setting off along the road.
"The pursuit was on," explained Jackson police chief Len Keller, who also noted that any apes were likely to have been apocryphal, none having been recovered from the car.
There then ensued a 75-mile chase - hitting speeds of up to 130mph - as officers and Pennsylvania state troopers attempted to reel in Joseph, who hit several cars and law enforcement vehicles as he attempted to get the proverbial monkey off his back.
The episode came to a sudden halt when Joseph ran out of monkey magic, and ploughed into a bridge.
Said by the paper to be in the third year of a four-year parole stretch for an impressive list of burglary, prowling, loitering, theft and receiving stolen property, Joseph was also previously sentenced for "open lewdness".
