It's well accepted that alcohol and roads don't make a happy combination, but the focus is usually that drivers themselves should steer clear of the demon drink.
However, a small town in Romania has taken to putting up signs warning drivers about the hazard posed by drunken pedestrians, in a bid to cut down on accidents.
Said to be inspired by a similar incentive in Germany, Pecica has installed 10 signs that depict a crawling stick figure desperately clutching a bottle, along with the words "attention: drunks".
And although the town is home to a mere 13,000 people, the signs nevertheless target an area of Pecica that has apparently become known for its nightspots and drunken revelry.
While calling to mind the perennially popular 'student crossing' posters, the warnings also seem to take inspiration from serious signs telling drivers to be aware of the elemental processes of nature.
This seems to place revellers at the same level as procreating toads - something mayor Peter Antal hinted at by saying that pedestrians fully in the thrall of alcohol have "little control over their actions", and when they get to the state to which the signs allude, are "beyond caring".
"We are a border town and have lots of cars thundering through here all the time," he added.
"But we also have a very vibrant nightlife and the two don't mix."
