A bit of canny multi-tasking can help pack more into a busy schedule, but when it comes to driving, common sense and the law dictate you should give it your full attention.
Even so, an eight-day operation by Gwent Police has revealed a startling lack of common sense among drivers on the M4, including one woman found flossing her teeth at motorway speeds.
During the operation to weed out irresponsible and illegal driving, officers patrolled the M4 in unmarked vehicles, filming cars with defects and drivers who weren't giving the road their full attention.
Fifty-seven offences were detected, including driving without a seatbelt, using a mobile phone while driving, and even a learner driver found towing a trailer.
A spokesperson told The Telegraph that police had caught women applying make-up and men using electric razors at the wheel.
"But this is the first time we've seen someone flossing their teeth at the wheel," he said.
"It was a quite bizarre sight."
The woman was apparently given a fixed penalty for careless driving.
Meanwhile, Scottish driver Michael Mancini - who refused to pay a £60 fixed-penalty that was issued when police spotted him blowing his nose in stationary traffic - can breathe easily again.
The Daily Record reports that the procurator fiscal labelled the charge "ridiculous", and decided not to prosecute - something which came as quite a relief to Mancini, who rued the "hellish" episode.
