A 101-year-old US driver who took a shine to a re-born muscle car followed his heart when it was time to trade in - and came away with 426 horses.
Virgil Coffman knew what he wanted when he spotted the special edition Chevrolet Camaro SS - the latest version of an American legend that was resurrected in the 2007 film Transformers as Bumblebee, one of the slinky robot vehicles.
And despite being born three years before Chevrolet itself was founded, Coffman didn't let his advanced years put him off the yellow and black car's huge power. After outliving his wife and three children, he decided it was time to go for a sports car.
The centenarian was even born eight months before Chevrolet's owners General Motors - for whom he worked from 1950 to 1973 - was founded.
Claiming he has owned up to 40 cars in his lifetime, the aging enthusiast has a clear philosophy when it comes to choosing a new vehicle, something he outlined to GM executives when he was invited on a tour of the company's offices.
"I don't care if you're 100 or 50 or whatever you are; if you want something get it. Drive it. That's what I figure," Coffman said.
And he had words of encouragement on the future of the beleaguered American car industry.
"If they do all their cars like this one they're going to come out in good shape," Coffman added.
