Two men took a 15mph golf buggy and attempted a 70-mile journey home along the A75 main road in Scotland.
Robert Watt, 21, admitted stealing the buggy from Lagganmore Golf Club late on June 10, in order to make the epic trek from Portpatrick to Dumfries.
His friend Mark Gillespie, 25, who admitted dangerous driving, drink-driving and driving without a licence, then took the wheel for the ambitious homeward-bound bid.
Stranraer Sheriff Court heard that police were tipped off about the pair, catching up with them as they trundled along the A75 without lights.
Gillespie was almost three times over the legal alcohol limit when the pair were hauled over near Glenluce, 15 miles from the golf club - which purports to offer one of the finest courses in Wigtownshire.
Sheriff David Hall, who heard from Gillespie's defence lawyer that it had been an "amusing episode" despite the potentially serious consequences, dubbed the caper an extremely foolish offence.
Sergeant Paul Dodds, from the Galloway Roads Policing Unit, said: "An accident between a golf buggy and an articulated lorry does not bear thinking about."
Gillespie was fined £525 in total and banned from driving for three years, after which he will have to sit an extended test, while Watt was fined £150 for the theft.
