He's used to being the butt of the jokes for the other Top Gear lads, but James May is on track to become a record breaker with a mighty Scalextric construction project.
Captain Slow, known for his methodical approach to all things automotive, corralled helpers to piece together 20,000 tiny sections of track, running along the original 2.75-mile Brooklands motor racing track in Surrey.
May is looking to smash the current record for the longest slot car racing track, which belongs to a 1.59-mile miniature road constructed in Berlin in 2007.
Guinness World Records is now looking into the attempt, which cost £150,000 to stage, and was filmed for James May's Toy Stories - a series which also sees him build a house out of Lego.
Once the track was in place, a team of residents and volunteers took on Scalextric Club members in a race.
Brooklands was the first purpose-built, banked motor racing circuit in the world, rolled out in 1907, a year before the Indianapolis track. Although its last race took place 70 years ago, the track has adapted to the times, playing host to an airfield and the current Brooklands Museum.
