Giant hotdog driven into house

( 22/07/2009 )

A 23ft motorised hotdog smashed into a house and cracked its foundations, after a rookie driver forgot to select reverse gear.

The Oscar Mayer sausage company's Wienermobile - versions of which have been part of American life since 1936 - ploughed into the house in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, when the hotdog helmsman attempted a three-point turn.

Leaving a 12ft skidmark on the drive of the property, the bratwurst battering ram bowled into the base of the house, snapping joists that supported first floor decking, cracking the foundations and causing the integral garage to lean inwards.

Nick Krupp, who rents the house from his mother, was out at the time. He came home to find the vehicle gone, but noticed tell-tale signs left on his drive, including a crumb of fibreglass bun.

He told the WCF Courier that he didn't know quite how to respond.

"Am I supposed to be mad?" he asked.

"I can't believe this."

According to Oscar Mayer, the woman behind the wheel was a first-year Wienermobile driver.

She was on the way to a scheduled appearance with the fibreglass frankfurter, of which there have been six versions over the years.
