Learner posts flawless driving test

( 30/06/2009 )

A learner driver once terrified to get behind the wheel has aced her driving test - passing without any faults.

Kim Murton from Hellesdon, near Norwich, put in the flawless performance - which is almost unheard of - after nine months of taking lessons.

The 24-year-old toy shop worker said she was as amazed by her success in the 40-minute test, especially as it took her years to pluck up the courage to attempt to drive a car.

She eventually thought she would give it a spin after buying a Mini Cooper with her partner.

While drivers are allowed up to 15 minor faults in the practical test, any error which is deemed serious or dangerous results in a failure.

According to the Daily Mail newspaper, 40% of candidates fail the practical test at least once, while even successful candidates rack up an average of nine minor faults.

And of course, like all good pupils, Kim has credited her success to an excellent teacher.

Stephen Lelievre, who has been an instructor for 33 years, said he had never heard of anyone managing a perfect test.

"I know people who have come close, but no errors at all is amazing.

"I am really proud of Kim because she was so nervous at first.

"She has come such a long way."
