An elderly man on a mobility scooter had a lucky escape after a wrong turn saw him driving along a busy motorway.
The unnamed 89-year-old was finally rescued from the M20 in Kent after several shocked drivers alerted the police, the Times reports.
The incident happened last Tuesday at Cheriton, near Folkestone, on the busy London-bound carriageway ? just as the motorway was revving up for the evening rush hour. The scooter was travelling at 8mph as traffic thundered alongside at 70mph.
The man was eventually picked up from the hard shoulder by police and escorted home.
Talking to the Kentish Express, Kent Police spokesman Emily Turner said: "An 89-year-old man had taken a wrong turning, travelling by mistake on to the M20. He was stopped at junction 11a and driven home with his scooter."
In March, 90-year-old Stanley Murphy was picked up in similar circumstances, having been spotted using his mobility scooter on the dual-carriageway A27 in Sussex.
