007 replica packs 'rocket launchers for the road'

( 31/03/2009 )

James Bond fans can now live out their spy fantasies with a road-legal replica of 007's Aston Martin - complete with machine gun cannons and rocket launchers.

Resembling Bond's 450+ bhp V12 Vanquish - which made an unforgettable appearance in 2002's Die Another Day - the car is not actually an Aston Martin, but is based on a Ford Mustang.

And while it may not quite be the stuff of which 007 dreams are made, it's no slouch; with 425 horses under the bonnet.

But while it's been dubbed the Ultimate Spy Car, the almost-Aston's weaponry is only for show, and - like its revolving number plates - can only be activated when the engine is switched off.

Despite being conceived as an "affordable supercar", it will still cost a hefty Canadian $125,000 - though this is less than half the cost of the real thing.

Businessman Mark Stuzka, from Cloverdale, British Columbia, who teamed up with Exclusive Motor Cars to create the ersatz Aston, believes the car is recession-proof and will not depreciate in value due to its rarity.

"It just seemed like a great idea and we soon realized there was a great opportunity here to fulfil some people's spy fantasies," explained Stuzka.

"We are getting calls from all over the world, including Belgium where a man there has changed his name legally to James Bond."
