Formula One fans have had their first glimpse of the cars and drivers taking part in the 2009 championship, at the first practice session of the Australian Grand Prix.
Sunday's race, which takes place on the street-based Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit, is the first of 17 rounds in what seems likely to be a fascinating F1 season.
Rule changes from last year include the return of slick tyres after an 11-year absence and dramatically different aerodynamic rules.
And in a nod to the environment, cars can boost their power through energy stored during braking, although as yet it's unclear how many teams will do so.
The season has already seen some controversy, after governing body the FIA attempted to introduce a new rule just two weeks before the first race. The change, which would award the championship to the driver with the most race wins, was unpopular with drivers and has been deferred until 2010.
Meanwhile, Honda has withdrawn from the sport, with its team now competing under the name of boss Ross Brawn.
In the UK, television coverage of the sport returns to the BBC after 12 years on ITV, though iconic presenter Murray Walker will contribute only to website coverage.
In both of Friday's practice sessions, Williams driver Nico Rosberg set the fastest lap times while defending champion Lewis Hamilton's McLaren was further down the field.
"We are not in the place we want to be," Hamilton conceded.
