A postman has explained how he ended up taking a baby otter on a 220-mile trip around Scotland last weekend.
Kenny Wilson was off-duty and on his way to a Mini enthusiasts' rally on Sunday when he spotted the six-week-old otter on the A7 near Stow, the BBC reports.
Stopping his 1999 Mini Cooper, he picked up the poorly-looking animal, put it in the postbag he had with him in the car and carried on his journey.
But after hearing "little squeaks and sucking noises", he realised his tiny passenger might be hungry.
"I stopped at Tesco at Dalkeith and bought some kitten milk and fed it through the tube of a ballpoint pen," Mr Wilson explained.
"She seemed happy enough and during our journey she kept crawling up my neck looking for more warmth."
After attending the rally as planned, he took his companion to the Arthurshiel Rescue Centre, where the otter - now named Orla - appears to have made a good recovery and has settled into an expensive diet of salmon, trout and kitten milk.
Writing yesterday on her blog, rescue centre owner Shona Middlemas said that Orla has very sharp teeth and "loves playing with Kevin our semi disabled kitten".
