A trip to the hairdressers led to a driving ban for a motorist who was more than four times the legal alcohol limit.
But Stirlingshire man Neil Davies, 57, who had his brush with the law on December 10, blamed his drunken state on nothing more potent than "hot toddies".
He claimed the whisky drinks were a remedy to prune back the gastric flu symptoms he was suffering from.
However, police were alerted to his half-cut condition after a businessman saw Davies drive off with his 16-year-old stepdaughter on the 0.75 mile journey.
Officers who approached him could smell alcohol on his breath, and a test confirmed he had 143 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The legal limit is 35.
Davies told police: "I have the flu and I've had three glasses of hot toddy with whisky, and that's what must have put me over the limit."
He was banned from driving for two years and fined £600 by Sheriff Andrew Cubie.
