Lorry driver jailed for ramming cars on M1

( 23/12/2008 )

An HGV driver who deliberately drove into at least three other vehicles on a motorway has been jailed.

Czech driver Vitezslav Labouenek, 44, tailgated and rammed cars in the fast lane of the M1, BBC News reports.

One of his victims, 53-year-old Sharon Palos, described how she was pushed along for several minutes by his 44-tonne truck.

"He was coming up behind me, taunting me," she said, quoted by the Halifax Evening Courier. "At one point, it looked like his grille was in my back window.

"I was trying to move forward to move away from him, but the more I did the more he came up the back of me. I tried to continue but I was trapped, then he rammed me."

The incident occurred between junctions 26 and 33 of the M1 on 18 August, and was caught on film by traffic cameras.

In Derby Crown Court, Labouenek admitted three counts of criminal damage with intent to endanger life and one of dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
