The diesel MINI 1.4TD loses its value more slowly than any other car, according to valuation experts.
It's the second year running that the MINI has topped EurotaxGlass's annual league table, being worth on average 63.2% of its new price after three years of motoring.
"The factors that help make the MINI as close to recession-proof as possible in the current used car market are its strong image, reasonable running costs and its high levels of perceived quality," said Adrian Rushmore, managing editor at EurotaxGlass's.
Other small models making it into the top ten for the first time this year include the Citroen C1 1.0 & 1.4TD (2nd place, 61.2%), the Toyota Aygo 1.0 (4th, 60.6%), the Peugeot 107 1.0 (57.4%) and the Smart 700 (56.7%).
Their success illustrates the demand for more economical cars, a trend also highlighted by recent research that found sales of used 4x4s had dropped across the UK - except in London - for the first time in eight years.
At the other end of the table was the Alfa Romeo 166. EurotaxGlass's claims that after three years it's worth just 12% of its price new.
