The last seven cars in with a chance of becoming '2009 Car of the Year' have been revealed.
The models still in the running are the Alfa Romeo Mito, Citroen C5, Ford's new Fiesta, the Vauxhall Insignia, Renault's Megane, Skoda's Superb and the Mk 6 VW Golf.
The award, decided by 59 journalists from 23 European countries, aims to recognise "the most outstanding new car to go on sale in the 12 months preceding the date of the title".
The 2008 Car of the Year was the Fiat 500.
Manufacturers on this year's shortlist will be hoping for any boost in sales that comes as a result of the award, after news on Thursday that October car sales were down almost a quarter (23%) on the same time last year.
The winner will be announced at the Autocar Awards on 17 November.
