Petrol averages under £1

( 27/10/2008 )

The price of UK petrol has fallen below £1 a litre for the first time in a year.

Figures released on Monday by comparison site PetrolPrices.com showed that the average price of a litre of unleaded petrol stood at 98.6p, with diesel at 111.0p.

In recent weeks, supermarkets have cut fuel prices aggressively.

Meanwhile, the price of crude oil has continued to fall, prompting speculation that there will be further price cuts at filling stations.

But motorists may still have to shop around for the best deals.

Last week, PetrolPrices.com said the gap between the cheapest and most expensive fuel on different UK forecourts was the widest it's ever been.
