Having your car break down is one of those things you hope won’t ever happen to you. Online car insurance specialist, elephant.co.uk, has discovered that breaking down happens to drivers in South East England more than anywhere else in the UK.
Of the 20,000 motorists who used the breakdown service in the last six months, 10 times more motorists called for help following a breakdown in London than in Glasgow, which is the second most common city for elephantbreakdown.co.uk to be called.
The top five counties stranded motorists called for help to are all in the South East: Surrey is in first place, followed by Essex, Kent, Middlesex, and Hampshire.
The M1 is also the most likely road for drivers to report a breakdown on. 13.6% of all jobs attended by our breakdown service take place on the M1, followed by the M25 in second place. You are 30% more likely to break down on the M1, than on the M6 (in third place).
Managing Director of elephant.co.uk, Ceri Assiratti, said: “Most motorists will have to deal with their car breaking down at some point, so it’s important to make sure that you can get the help you need if anything does go wrong - even if you don’t live or drive frequently in the South-East!”
