How would you like to do your bit toward saving the world? This
may sound like a tall order, but the car you drive can have a major
impact on the environment, and probably the greenest car on the
road is the Toyota Prius. To encourage people to think about the
environment, leading insurer elephant.co.uk is lowering the
recommended ABI insurance group on the Prius to make sure it is
cheaper to insure.
elephant.co.uk will insure the Prius Hybrid T Spirit and
Hybrid Auto at insurance group 7 instead of group 8 and the Hybrid
T3 and T4 at group 6 instead of group 7, which could mean a potential
saving of up to £100.
According to Toyota, the Prius is revolutionary as a result of
its Hybrid Synergy Drive system which combines an electric motor
and a petrol engine, and is part of Toyota's effort to create the
ultimate eco car. This technology has now been recognised across
Europe as the Prius has been voted Car of the Year 2005.
elephant.co.uk's managing director, Tanzie Oliver, explained
why it decided to lower the premium, "We are a very environmentally
aware company, and currently support both Born Free, who conserve
endangered species and protect wildlife habitat around the world,
and TUSK, who campaign for nature preservation in Africa. So, the
idea of a more environmentally friendly way to drive is very appealing
to us."
"Responsible environmentally conscious drivers are also likely
to be responsible safety conscious drivers, and they are the type
of driver that we like to insure."
So, what will this mean in terms of prices? elephant.co.uk
compared the cost of insuring the Prius Hybrid T Spirit through
itself and two competitors and came up with the following prices:
