The seven deadly sins may have lost some relevance in modern society,
but there is one area of life where almost everybody 'sins', behind
the wheel of the car. Now a leading car insurer has identified the
seven sins of motoring.
Online insurer, elephant.co.uk, has looked at the worst
aspects of modern motoring and composed a list of bad habits that
reflect the traditional seven sins. So which kind of sinner are
you?
Anger - The angry driver suffers from road rage, they fly
off the handle at the slightest thing; that includes their passengers,
pedestrians, cyclists and anyone else who dares to use the road.
Angry drivers can be spotted a long way off by their gesticulations
and by the veins throbbing in their necks. They are a risk to themselves
and to all other road users.
Avarice - The avaricious driver is just plain mean. They
will not give an inch in their quest for road domination; in fact
they will go out of their way to not give way to anyone, even their
mother. You can tell this kind of road sinner, by the way they refuse
to look you in the eye when all you are trying to do is pull out
of a side road.
Envy - The envious driver is jealous of other road users.
They cannot cope with the thought that someone else has a faster
or more expensive car than they do. A typical reaction of this type
of driver is to constantly complain about other drivers, especially
if they drive a Ferrari, Porsche or Jaguar. They also love to race
off at traffic lights to prove they are faster than you.
Gluttony - The gluttonous driver shows their sin in a number
of ways. Firstly by constantly eating and drinking eating while
they drive, endangering other road users and by lane hogging. They
refuse to leave the central lane of the motorway, despite the obvious
protests of other motorists, in fact the only thing that will get
them out of that lane is the McDonalds at the motorway service station.
Lust - The lustful driver also has a number of ways of displaying
their sin. They ogle other motorists, pedestrians, even road workers,
and this often causes them to swerve. Equally dangerous is the way
they tend to tailgate, like they're on the chase. Watch your rear
when these drivers are around.
Pride - The proud driver looks down their nose at other
drivers. If they are wealthy they drive a car worth more than most
people's houses and genuinely believe they do own the road. If they
are less wealthy, they are no less proud, they just spend money
on modifying their car. You can often hear this kind of proud driver
before you see them, thanks to the massive exhaust and booming stereo.
Sloth - The slothful driver is perhaps the most irritating
of all. They are just plain lazy, they never indicate, drift across
lanes and rarely consider any other motorists. Their cars are never
well maintained, are full of litter and are basically a risk to
all other road users. But do they care? No, they just can't be bothered.
Head elephant at elephant.co.uk, Tanzie Oliver, said: "Our
list may sound like a bit of fun, but the reality is that I'm sure
all of us have at sometime committed at least one of these sins.
Unfortunately there are some people who constantly commit them.
