If you are in a hurry and want to do things quickly and
easily you can't beat going online. The convenience of doing
things over the Internet has revolutionised how fast we can
do things.
Cardiff based car insurance provider, elephant.co.uk has conducted research
to find how long it takes to buy insurance over the telephone
compared with on the Internet.
Internet shopping is more popular than ever, and car insurance
is by far the most popular financial product bought online.
According to research by Mintel, 5% of us bought our insurance
over the Internet last year, and this figure is expected to
double over the next two years.
elephant.co.uk timed how long it took to get a quote from
eight leading insurance companies, both online and over the
telephone. And if you want your insurance quick, then the Internet
wins hands down.
Tanzie Oliver is head elephant at elephant.co.uk. She said, "I'm
sure everyone would agree that buying car insurance is a chore.
So saving time by going on the Internet is an attractive option.
There is also the bonus that you can do it almost any time
of the day. However, most companies also offer the option of
speaking to someone on the telephone, as there are times when
people want the reassurance of speaking to a human voice."
A researcher for elephant.co.uk did a blind shopping test,
by posing as a customer buying insurance for herself. All factors
were the same for each quotation.
On average, buying over the Internet was 2 minutes 3 seconds
faster than over the telephone. This might not sound much,
but the average customer contacts seven to eight companies
when buying their insurance, so doing it on the Internet could
save quite a bit of time.
Below are two tables which show the quickest over the telephone
and Internet.
