Over the last fifteen years Tusk has supported more than
30 projects in 15 African countries. Many of these are still
ongoing. If you would like to find out more about helping wildlife
or to make a donation, visit the Tusk
website.
Tusk is committed to providing long-term sustainable support
for projects in Africa and its support comes in many different
guises. For example, Tusk donated a fleet of 4x4 vehicles with
a complete mechanical workshop to aid the rehabilitation of
the vast Niassa Game Reserve in Mozambique. In Botswana, Tusk
provides valuable funds for a highly successful environmental
education centre at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve, visited each
year by over 12,000 children. It has also recently built a
wildlife rehabilitation clinic in the reserve used
to treat
animals within and outside the reserve.
The Mkomazi Project set up a black rhino breeding project
with rhinos that were imported from the UK. These are the first
black rhino to be rehabilitated into Tanzania. Tusk Trust funds
the security and communications system used by the game guards
who monitor the rhinos on a daily basis.
In the Virunga Mountains, Rwanda, Tusk has provided funds
to build three water tanks around the park to supply the local
communities with fresh water all the time. This reduces the
amount of time and distance people have to walk to collect
water each day and the tanks also mean that the communities
don't have to enter the park to do this. The park is home to
the last remaining Mountain Gorillas, whose population is so
small that if they were to contract a human disease, it could
wipe the population out.
Patrons of Tusk include Zoe Ball, Rory Bremner, Edward Fox
OBE and Suzannah York.
